"I, Humairah Jassat, a vibrant young aspiring girl at a tender age of 19, have recently graduated matric in the South African class of 2009. I strive diligently to serve my community, as an Islamic saying by my beloved prophet (p.b.u.h) goes, “best amongst thee is he who benefits mankind “. I share this enthusiasm as I believe that it is not about what we give, but what we share. So far I have, praise be to the almighty, excelled in many outreach projects. I have managed to co-ordinate, sub co-ordinate and also oversee many of these projects. Being a part of numerous social activities throughout my childhood has enabled me to develop my skills in public speaking and has also enabled me to blossom into an out-going and enthusiastic young woman. Growing up being a girl scouts has instilled in me morals, values and ethics that I hope to carry throughout my daily life. I am currently the chair person of the “Gauteng Youth Committee” and have also been a member of the prestigious “Presidents Award” for the past two years and this year is a year in which I will become an honourable gold award holder. I also serve on many youth committees, some religiously based. My religion has laid for me a sturdy foundation and as a saying of my beloved Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h) goes, something to the effect, “wish for your companion as you would wish for yourself.” As I wish for good upon myself, I also wish the same for others. I endeavour to bring joy into the lives of other people who are not as fortunate as me. I live by the ethos of maintaining a noble character, a joyous personality, and being a person whom others feel comfortable to be around. All of God’s creation deserves to be respected, and which is a quality I hope to accomplish. However, this begins with the mission of foremost, respecting myself. In 2010 i won africas innovation prize which was R70000 ,R30000 for my projects and R40000 for myself. In conclusion, I hope to spread the knowledge and lessons that I have learnt via my religion, culture, school, family structure, and friends to women and children of all walks of life, regardless of race, religion, background or dwelling. I aim to empower women and children who are victims of abuse, aid the poverty stricken in which ever I can, and to show the light to those trapped in dark tunnels. I hope to bring, even if it be a small glimmer of hope or joy or encouragement, to every individual whom I encounter in my lifetime. This will most definitely not be an easy task, but I hope that one day I will be able to look back and say to myself, I’ve tried. *A thought to ponder: ”Show mercy to the weak and you will be happy; give to the needy and you will be well; do not bear grudges and you will be healthy.” 
One particular project that comes to mind, and that has become rather well known amongst the women populace is that of “Pink Hijab Day. “ The project encouraged woman to don a pink scarf or “Hijab” to show consolidation to women suffering with breast cancer globally. Breast cancer is a disease that affects one in every three women and I strongly believe that this was what propelled many to support my cause. This project reached friends and families acquainted with breast cancer sufferers and extended beyond race, culture and religion. Upon the phenomenal success of “Pink Hijab Day” in the years 2008 and 2009, I have taken it upon myself to landmark this as an annual event and I am proud to be deemed the “Pink Hijab Girl”. The slogan for this event being “a united plight for a good cause” has encouraged many woman to chant this phrase on the set date of October 29th and I sincerely hope that “Pink Hijab Day” shall enjoy the fruits of its success for many years to come, as it has globally."
