Life & Style Mag

My name is Shireen Mansoor. After my full-time job in a mixture of human resources, quality management, accounts, purchasing etc. I began a career working from home again in a no. of fields, mendhi artistry, teaching arts and crafts, exhibiting at events, assisting in the organizing of events as well as co-ordinating my own events (Eid Bazaar and Pink Hijaab Day – an awareness day for breast cancer and a fundraiser for CANSA). On this path I began to meet so many others involved in home industries, and encountered social matters which needed to be advertized. That’s when the Durban Muslima was born. Initially it started on facebook as a group then a page and finally it reached the blog stage.

The Durban Muslima blog (www.durbanmuslima.blogspot.com) has become a platform to :-

· Market local events, gatherings, fundraisers
· Market home industries
· Market products
· Event reviews
· Highlighting social, health issues etc.
· Fashion, Hijab Styling, Recipes, Book launches etc.

I have people that are subscribed to the blog, who receive updates via email every time a new article is posted and over 9000 hits since September 2011.
I have partnered with Rookaya Vawda who is and educator and a complimentary therapist. She has been involved with various community projects and host very successful monthly empowerment programs.

We are embarking on a magazine with a difference…Life & Style Mag

The first issue will be a Ramadaan / Eid issue which will cover:-

Healthy eating tips
Fashion, hijab styling tutorials
Finance for women
Spirituality
Kids Section
Events Page
Health & Beauty
Poetry & Creative Writing Section
                                                                               Career Focus
Stories from Parents with Special Needs Kids and much more.

Health care professional, inspirational speakers, alternate therapist will contribute articles to this magazine. We want to encourage people to write their own stories of struggles and triumphs, as everyone has a story to tell.

Although there are other muslim magazines and muslim women magazines, Life & Style Mag promises to be a magazine for the whole family and have so much to offer that it will become a must-have for every muslim home. We won’t be “just a good read” but a magazine that helps, empowers and provides knowledge to the muslim community both young and old.

We will be printing 5,000-10,000 copies every month. These magazines will be sold throughout SA at a minimum price to make it affordable to all.

The magazine will be launched in July at the North beach Events Abaya fashion show, with the theme of the first issue being Ramadaan / Eid. The theme for the second issue is Nikaah and third issue is Hajj.

As an added bonus to advertising in this magazine, you will be getting a free posting on the Durban Muslima blog.

In order for the Life & Style Mag to be the success that has been envisioned, we require articles as well as advertisers. We have already attracted a lot of interest in this regard, and we are sure this will grow.

For more information on submitting articles or advertising rates, mail me on durbanmuslima@gmail.com.
We look forward to hearing from you and building a mutually beneficial relationship in making the Life & Style Mag into a must-have in every muslim home.
